  • 12 Honeycrisp apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  • ¼ cup Water
For the topping
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 24 tbsp Butter, unsalted (3 sticks of butter)
  • 1 tsp salt

Method
 

  1. First thing you’re gonna do is peel and slice up your 12 Honeycrisp apples. Go ahead and get those into a large bowl. To that, you’re adding in your half a cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon. Mix that all together really well so every slice is coated.
  2. Now take that apple mixture and pour it straight into a 9x13 baking dish. Spread it out nice and even.
  3. Next, grab yourself another bowl. In that bowl, you’re gonna add 1 teaspoon of salt, 2 cups of sugar, and 2 cups of flour. Give that a quick mix, then go in with your cubed butter.
  4. Now here’s where you use your hands—start working everything together. You want to break that butter down into the dry ingredients until you get that crumb-like texture. Not too smooth, you want those little chunks in there.
  5. Once that’s ready, take your topping and spread it all over your apples. Don’t just sprinkle—go ahead and pack it in nice and tight so you get that thick, crunchy layer on top.
  6. Pop it into a 375-degree oven and bake for about 45 minutes to 1 hour. You’re looking for that golden top and bubbling apples underneath.
  7. And that’s it. Super crunchy on top, soft and caramelized on the bottom.
